Measure with calipers, answer four questions, get ranked matches with the known look-alike traps called out — JIC vs ORFS vs BSPP vs NPT vs metric. Built by a mechanical engineer; measurements beat guessing.
How to measure: male thread → outside diameter at the crests; female → inside diameter. Count threads over 10 mm and multiply for TPI (or use a pitch gauge). Tapered threads (NPT/BSPT) measure ~1 mm smaller mid-thread — measure at the large end.
Enter a diameter to see matches.
JIC -06 and ORFS -04 share the same 9/16-18 thread — only the seat differs (37° cone vs flat face + O-ring). BSPP G1/4 vs NPT 1/4 differ by one TPI (19 vs 18) and flank angle (55° vs 60°). BSPT and NPT 1/2 are both 14 TPI, 0.3 mm apart — they will start to mate and leak forever. When two candidates score alike, the seat is the tiebreaker; when in doubt, gauge the flank angle or take it to the counter.
